Having a bond with Daitokuji temple, this young sculptor, often can be found here. Whether this is the reason I don`t know but one can see many times the theme of monks and wandering priests in his works.
However having no experience being an apprentice under any sculptor devoted to Buddhist statues, his works can be considered as sculptures from an artist, as one says, with a point of view schooled at art-college.
These are not works with the specializations in the sense of the engraved Buddhist statues from Kamakura period`s Unkai nor Edo period`s Enkou but more as if the shapes of the wood he is using is made to use in an almost casual way giving the light to his creations.Nowadays with the presence of religious objects little by little disappearing from our daily lives, I feel that these casual little statues will be very suitable to dwell in some corner of the house or on some shelf edge fulfilling more than just being an object.
Please feel free to come and see these statues at this opportunity
