YU-ICHI Inoue

『 徹 』 1960 145.8×174.4cm(※) CRNo.60041

Yuichi Inoue 1916-1985 Just like those works written by high priest and historical calligraphers, calligraphy works usually contain something instructional and associative with the artist's personality. Also as a way of communication, calligraphy works are usually required to be traditionally neat and in order.
However, Yuichi's works have escaped from these stereotypes and elevated into a state of art. His works have been given a historical position since the world found out the communalities between Yuichi's calligraphy works and the art works created by those artists of the same period, such as Jackson Pollock.
In China, the motherland of calligraphy, more than 10 times of Yuichi's personal exhibitions have been held, in order to explore "the possibility of calligraphy ". It makes us feel very proud that one Japanese man's challenge of calligraphy can be evaluated equally to art, which is the invention of the whole mankind.
